Questions, answered

Curing Pen FAQ

Can I use a 1–3 second exposure for every composite?
No. The 1, 2 and 3 second settings are available at 2300 mW/cm², but their suitability depends on the restorative material and clinical conditions. Follow the material manufacturer’s specified intensity, exposure time and maximum increment thickness.
What is the difference between M0, M1 and M2?
These are three customisable memory programmes. Each can store a selected output of 1000, 1500 or 2300 mW/cm² with an available exposure time, allowing you to recall different settings.
How do Ramp and Pulse differ?
Ramp gradually increases to 1000 mW/cm² during the first 5 seconds and then continues at that output. Pulse uses intermittent output at 1000 mW/cm². Their light intensity is preset.
Can Detect mode cure a restoration?
No. Detect operates at 600 mW/cm² and is intended for examination of calculus, caries, cracks and similar findings. The manual warns that using it to cure resins or composites risks incomplete curing.
Does the light-source head rotate?
Yes. The head rotates through 360° without being removed. The settings menu also provides left- and right-hand display options.
How long does charging take, and can I use it on the base?
A full charge takes approximately 4 hours, depending on remaining charge and battery condition. Other functions stop during charging. Use the original adapter and seat the handpiece correctly in its charging base.
How should I clean it between patients?
Discard the disposable sleeve after each use. Clean and disinfect the device components using the procedure specified in Section 8 of the manual. Do not substitute an autoclave cycle for the manufacturer’s cleaning and disinfection procedure.
What protective measures are required?
Use the protective light shield and a disposable sleeve during treatment, as required by the manual. Avoid direct light exposure to the eyes and skin, and follow the manual’s precautions for heat and repeated high-output use.
