Clinical workflow

Step-by-step clinical workflow

Follow the clinical sequence below together with the current manufacturer instructions for use.

0 1 Establish a smooth, reproducible glide path Access · working length · ISO 010 → 015

Prepare straight-line access, scout the canal with small stainless-steel hand files and determine working length. Establish a smooth, reproducible glide path to at least ISO 015 before introducing an MH rotary file.

0 2 Establish the rotary pathway with 17/.04 Passive progression · 300–500 RPM · 3.0 N·cm

Introduce the 17/.04 MH file into the established glide path and advance passively toward working length using controlled movements and minimal apical pressure. Withdraw periodically to clean the flutes, irrigate and recapitulate as needed.

0 3 Primary shaping with 25/.04 Use 20/.04 first when additional progression is required

Advance 25/.04 passively toward working length when clinically appropriate. If 25/.04 meets resistance before reaching working length, withdraw, irrigate and recapitulate, then use 20/.04 to further establish the rotary pathway before returning to 25/.04.

0 4 Enlarge sequentially and verify the preparation Select .04 or .06 taper according to anatomy and preparation goals

When a larger apical preparation is clinically indicated, increase tip size sequentially through the available MH sizes. Use .04 taper when flexibility and conservative enlargement are priorities, and select .06 taper when additional taper is appropriate. Irrigate and recapitulate between files, then verify the final preparation and working length before proceeding with the selected irrigation and obturation protocol.

Review the sterility, handling and safety information for this exact product version.

Sterility Non-sterile · sterilize before first use

Clinical handling & safety Review before clinical use
Before first clinical use

This product is supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use. Steam sterilize at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before clinical use. After clinical use, discard the instrument. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize, re-sterilize or reuse the file after clinical use.

  • For professional dental use only. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and rubber dam isolation.
  • Contains nickel-titanium. Do not use in patients with a known allergy or sensitivity to nickel-titanium or any other component of the device.
  • Use only with a compatible electric, torque-controlled endodontic motor.
  • Use continuous clockwise rotation only. Do not use reciprocating motion.
  • Do not introduce an MH rotary file into an unscouted canal. Establish a smooth, reproducible glide path before rotary instrumentation.
  • Use minimal apical pressure and allow the instrument to advance passively. Do not force the file when resistance is encountered.
  • If resistance is encountered, withdraw the file, clean the flutes, irrigate, recapitulate and reassess the pathway before continuing.
  • Exercise additional caution in canals with severe curvature, abrupt curvature, canal divisions, calcification or anatomy where safe passive progression cannot be achieved.
  • Clean the flutes frequently and inspect the instrument during use for deformation, unwinding, wear, corrosion, damaged cutting edges or other visible defects.
  • Irrigate and recapitulate frequently during instrumentation and between rotary files.
  • Because of the CM Wire heat treatment, the file may display a slight natural curve. Do not automatically interpret this as a defect or attempt to straighten the instrument before use.
  • Single use only. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse after clinical use.
  • After clinical use, discard the instrument in an appropriate biohazard sharps container.
  • Store in the original packaging at room temperature in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and high humidity. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the product label.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Quick answers about product selection, configuration and clinical use.

What are NIC® MH Rotary Files used for?

NIC® MH files are continuous-rotation nickel-titanium instruments designed for sequential root-canal shaping after a smooth, reproducible glide path has been established.

What sizes and tapers are available?

MH is available in ISO sizes 17, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 in both .04 and .06 constant tapers. Available lengths are 21 mm, 25 mm and 31 mm.

What motor settings should be used for MH files?

Use NIC® MH files with a compatible electric, torque-controlled endodontic motor in continuous clockwise rotation. Follow the speed and torque settings specified on the current NIC® MH product label, instructions for use or NIC-approved motor preset. Do not automatically apply settings published for another file system.

Can MH files be used in reciprocating motion?

No. MH is designed for continuous clockwise rotary operation and should not be used in reciprocating mode.

How should the MH shaping sequence begin?

First, establish a smooth, reproducible manual glide path to at least ISO 015. The 17/.04 file can then be used to establish the rotary pathway before progressing to larger shaping files according to canal anatomy and clinical requirements.

When should 20/.04 be used?

If 25/.04 does not progress passively toward working length, withdraw the instrument, irrigate and recapitulate, then use 20/.04 to further establish the rotary pathway before returning to 25/.04. Do not increase apical pressure to force progression.

When should I choose .04 versus .06 taper?

The .04 taper is useful when flexibility and more conservative enlargement are priorities. The .06 taper may be selected when additional taper or coronal enlargement is clinically appropriate. Taper selection should always reflect canal anatomy and the desired preparation.

Is MH supplied sterile?

No. MH files are supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use. The current product information specifies steam sterilization at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process.

Which familiar workflow is MH organized around?

MH is organized around a familiar EdgeFile® X7-style constant-taper rotary workflow for clinicians accustomed to flexible heat-treated NiTi files in .04 and .06 tapers. Follow the MH-specific specifications and NIC® manufacturer guidance rather than assuming interchangeability with another system.

Where is MH file manufactured?

MH file is manufactured in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.
