Clinical workflow

Step-by-step clinical workflow

Follow the clinical sequence below together with the current manufacturer instructions for use.

0 1 Establish access, working length and a reproducible pathway Straight-line access · working length · size 010 K-file

Prepare straight-line access to the canal orifice. Explore the canal with small stainless-steel hand files, determine working length, confirm patency and establish a smooth, reproducible manual pathway before introducing PRG+.

  • Determine working length using an apex locator and/or radiographic confirmation as clinically appropriate.
  • Pre-curve small hand files when negotiating curved or difficult anatomy.
  • Use an appropriate root-canal lubricant or chelating gel when clinically indicated.
  • Irrigate and recapitulate until a size 010 K-file moves predictably to working length.
  • Exercise additional caution in canals with abrupt curvature, recurvature or canal divisions.
  • Do not force hand files or attempt mechanical glide-path expansion before the pathway is reproducible.
0 2 Expand the glide path with PRG+ 16/.02 250 RPM · 3.0 N·cm · continuous clockwise rotation

Introduce PRG+ into the confirmed manual pathway and advance passively in continuous clockwise rotation using one or more controlled passes until working length is reached.

  • Set the motor to 250 RPM and 3.0 N·cm.
  • Use continuous clockwise rotation only. Do not use reciprocating motion.
  • Apply light apical pressure and allow the instrument to follow the established pathway.
  • Multiple controlled passes may be required depending on canal anatomy.
  • Withdraw frequently to clean the flutes and inspect the instrument.
  • Irrigate and recapitulate with a size 010 K-file between passes when progression becomes less predictable.
  • If resistance is encountered, do not force the file. Withdraw, clean, irrigate and reconfirm patency before resuming.
0 3 Verify the glide path and transition to shaping Reconfirm working length · irrigate · proceed to shaping

After PRG+ reaches working length, irrigate the canal and reconfirm working length, patency and a smooth reproducible pathway before beginning mechanical canal shaping.

  • Reconfirm patency and working length with a small hand file.
  • Confirm that the glide path remains smooth and reproducible.
  • Irrigate thoroughly before introducing the first shaping file.
  • Proceed with the selected rotary or reciprocating shaping system according to that system’s own instructions for use.
  • Use the shaping system’s specified motion, speed, torque and sequence.
  • Do not use PRG+ as the final shaping or apical-finishing file.
Sterility & safety

Important information for this product version

Review the sterility, handling and safety information for this exact product version.

Sterility Non-sterile · sterilize before first use
Use Single Use
Clinical handling & safety Review before clinical use
Before first clinical use

This product is supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use. Steam sterilize at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before clinical use. Do not use if the package is damaged or compromised. After clinical use, discard the instrument. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize, re-sterilize, or reuse the file after clinical use.

  • For professional dental use only. Use rubber dam isolation or another appropriate isolation method.
  • Contains nickel-titanium. Do not use in patients with a known nickel allergy or sensitivity to any other component of the device.
  • Use only with a compatible electric, torque-controlled endodontic motor.
  • Use continuous clockwise rotation only. Do not use reciprocating motion.
  • Do not introduce PRG+ before confirming a smooth, reproducible pathway with a size 010 K-file.
  • Exercise additional caution in canals that divide or show abrupt curvature or recurvature.
  • Use light apical pressure and allow the instrument to advance passively. Do not force the file when resistance is encountered.
  • Withdraw the instrument frequently to clean the flutes, irrigate, recapitulate and inspect the instrument.
  • Do not use a file showing distortion, unwinding, corrosion, damaged cutting edges or other visible defects.
  • Do not use PRG+ as the final shaping or apical-finishing instrument.
  • Single use only. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse after clinical use.
  • After clinical use, discard the instrument in an appropriate biohazard sharps container.
  • Store in the original packaging at room temperature in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and high humidity.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the product label.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Quick answers about product selection, configuration and clinical use.

What is PRG+ used for?

PRG+ is a mechanical glide-path instrument used to expand a smooth, reproducible pathway that has already been established with small hand files. It prepares the canal pathway before rotary or reciprocating shaping and is not intended to serve as the final shaping or apical-finishing file.

When should PRG+ be introduced into the canal?

Introduce PRG+ only after working length, patency and a smooth, reproducible manual pathway have been established. A size 010 K-file should move predictably to working length before mechanical glide-path expansion with PRG+ begins.

What motor settings should be used for PRG+?

Use PRG+ in continuous clockwise rotation at 250 RPM with a torque limit of 3.0 N·cm on a compatible electric, torque-controlled endodontic motor.

Can PRG+ be used in reciprocating motion?

No. PRG+ is designed for continuous clockwise rotary motion and should not be operated in reciprocating mode.

What does 16/.02 mean on PRG+?

The 16 designation indicates a 0.16 mm tip diameter at D0. PRG+ uses a variable progressive taper rather than a constant taper, so its taper changes along the active portion of the file.

How should PRG+ be advanced during glide-path preparation?

Advance PRG+ passively with light apical pressure through the established manual pathway. Withdraw frequently to clean the flutes, irrigate and recapitulate. If resistance is encountered, do not force the file; withdraw it and reconfirm that the pathway remains clear and reproducible before continuing.

Can PRG+ be used before either rotary or reciprocating shaping?

Yes. PRG+ prepares the mechanical glide path before canal shaping and may precede an appropriate rotary or reciprocating shaping system. PRG+ itself must remain in continuous clockwise rotation, while the shaping system that follows should be used according to its own specified motion, speed, torque and sequence.

Is PRG+ supplied sterile?

No. PRG+ is supplied non-sterile and must be steam sterilized before first clinical use. The current product information specifies sterilization at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process.

Which familiar workflow is PRG+ organized around?

PRG+ is organized around a familiar ProGlider®-style mechanical glide-path workflow for clinicians accustomed to using a single rotary glide-path instrument before shaping. Always follow the product-specific PRG+ specifications and NIC® manufacturer guidance rather than assuming interchangeability with another system.

Where is PRG+ manufactured?

PRG+ is manufactured in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.
