Clinical workflow

Step-by-step clinical workflow

Follow the clinical sequence below together with the current manufacturer instructions for use.

0 1 Evaluate the canal and create straight-line access Radiographs · access · irrigation

Review pre-operative radiographs to assess canal width, length, visibility and curvature. Create straight-line coronal and radicular access, then irrigate the pulp chamber and canal system.

0 2 Scout the canal and establish a manual glide path ISO 008–010 stainless-steel K-files

Scout the canal with small stainless-steel hand files. Determine working length using an apex locator with radiographs, confirm patency, and establish a smooth, reproducible manual glide path before introducing PTF+.

0 3 Advance PTF+ #1 / P1 to working length 13/.02 · 300 RPM · 0.6–1.0 N·cm

Use P1 13/.02 to working length in continuous clockwise rotation. Apply minimal apical pressure. Withdraw periodically, clean and inspect the flutes, irrigate, and recapitulate as needed.

0 4 Progress through P2 and P3 as required 16/.02 → 19/.02 when clinically required

Use P2 16/.02 to working length. Use P3 19/.02 only when a larger expanded glide path is clinically required before shaping. Irrigate, clean the flutes, and recapitulate between instruments.

0 5 Reconfirm and transition to canal shaping ISO 015 confirmation · selected shaping system

Reconfirm working length with an ISO 015 K-file and an apex locator. Confirm patency, recapitulate and re-irrigate, then continue with the selected NiTi shaping system according to its current instructions for use.

Sterility & safety

Important information for this product version

Review the sterility, handling and safety information for this exact product version.

Sterility Non-sterile · sterilize before first use
Use Single use
Clinical handling & safety Review before clinical use
Before first clinical use
  • This product version is supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use.
  • Steam-autoclave at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before clinical use.
  • After clinical use, discard each file in an appropriate biohazard sharps container. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse it.
  • For dental professional use only. Use rubber dam isolation and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Do not use in patients with known allergic sensitivity to nickel-titanium alloy or another device component.
  • Use only with a compatible torque-controlled endodontic motor in continuous clockwise rotation. Do not use in reciprocating motion.
  • Do not introduce PTF+ into an unscouted canal. Establish a smooth, reproducible manual glide path before mechanical preparation.
  • Use minimal apical pressure and never force the file. Withdraw, clean and inspect the flutes, irrigate and recapitulate if progression is not passive.
  • Do not use a file that is deformed, unwound, corroded, fractured or worn. Do not use mechanically where abrupt curvature or anatomy prevents safe passive progression.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Quick answers about product selection, configuration and clinical use.

Is NIC® PTF+ comparable to PathFile®?

NIC® PTF+ is positioned for a comparable three-file mechanical glide-path workflow and file sequence. It is an independent NIC® product and is not manufactured by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Dentsply Sirona.

When should NIC® PTF+ be introduced?

Use PTF+ after the canal has been manually scouted and a smooth, reproducible manual glide path has been established, and before canal shaping with the selected NiTi system.

What is the recommended PTF+ sequence?

Use PTF+ #1 / P1 13/.02 to working length, followed by PTF+ #2 / P2 16/.02. Use PTF+ #3 / P3 19/.02 when a larger expanded glide path is clinically required before shaping.

Is PTF+ #3 / P3 always required?

No. P3 19/.02 is used when a larger expanded glide path is clinically required before canal shaping.

What motor settings are recommended for PTF+?

Use a compatible torque-controlled endodontic motor in continuous clockwise rotation at 300 RPM and 0.6–1.0 N·cm. Confirm the motor and handpiece requirements before clinical use.

Can PTF+ be used in reciprocating motion?

No. PTF+ is intended for continuous clockwise rotary motion and should not be used in reciprocating motion.

Which PTF+ lengths are available?

PTF+ #1 / P1, PTF+ #2 / P2 and PTF+ #3 / P3 are available in 21 mm, 25 mm and 31 mm lengths.

Are NIC® PTF+ files supplied sterile?

No. This product version is supplied non-sterile and must be steam-sterilized before first clinical use at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before use.

Can NIC® PTF+ files be reused?

No. PTF+ files are single-use instruments. After clinical use, discard them in an appropriate biohazard sharps container.

What should I do if a PTF+ file does not progress easily?

Withdraw the file, clean and inspect the cutting flutes, irrigate, recapitulate with a manual file and re-irrigate. Do not force the file apically.
