Clinical workflow

Step-by-step clinical workflow

Follow the clinical sequence below together with the current manufacturer instructions for use.

0 1 Assess the canal and establish the pathway Radiographic evaluation · working length · hand-file scouting

Review pre-operative radiographs to assess canal width, length, visibility and curvature. Create straight-line coronal and radicular access, determine working length using radiographs and/or an apex locator, and scout the canal with a small stainless-steel hand file.

  • For a narrow or poorly visible canal, begin with R25.
  • When the canal is clearly visible, passive hand-file gauging may help determine whether R40 or R50 is appropriate.
  • Confirm patency and a reproducible pathway with a size 010 hand file.
  • Create a glide path to at least ISO 015 when resistance, curvature or limited patency indicates that additional preparation is needed.
  • Reconfirm working length before introducing the reciprocating file.
  • Do not force hand files or reciprocating instruments apically.
0 2 Shape with short reciprocating pecks Approximately 3 mm or less · very light apical pressure

Place irrigant in the access cavity, introduce the selected V Blue file at the canal entrance, activate the authorized reciprocating mode, and advance with slow controlled in-and-out pecking movements.

  • Keep the pecking amplitude at approximately 3 mm or less.
  • Use very light apical pressure and allow the instrument to advance passively.
  • After about three pecks, withdraw the file, clean the flutes, irrigate and recapitulate before continuing.
  • A gentle brushing action may be used on withdrawal to enlarge the canal entrance when clinically appropriate.
  • Continue progressively until working length is reached, cleaning and irrigating after each short series of pecks.
  • If the file does not progress easily, stop, withdraw, clean, irrigate, recapitulate with a size 010 or 015 hand file, re-irrigate and reassess the glide path.
  • Never use continuous rotation.
  • Do not increase apical pressure to force advancement.
0 3 Gauge the apex and confirm final size R25 → ISO #30 · R40 → ISO #50 · R50 → ISO #60

After the selected V Blue file reaches working length, gauge the apical preparation with the corresponding hand-file size to confirm whether the final preparation is adequate.

  • After R25, gauge with an ISO #30 hand file.
  • After R40, gauge with an ISO #50 hand file.
  • After R50, gauge with an ISO #60 hand file.
  • If the gauge is snug at working length, shaping may be complete.
  • If the gauge remains loose, consider the next V Blue size only when canal anatomy supports additional enlargement.
  • Complete final irrigation, drying and apical verification before obturation.
  • Select the master gutta-percha cone only after confirming dimensional compatibility with the final preparation.

Sterility & safety

Important information for this product version

Review the sterility, handling and safety information for this exact product version.

Sterility Non-sterile · sterilize before first use
Use Single Use
Clinical handling & safety Review before clinical use
Before first clinical use

This product is supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use. Steam sterilize at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before clinical use. Do not use if the package is damaged or compromised. After clinical use, discard the instrument. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize, re-sterilize, or reuse the file after clinical use.

  • For professional dental use only.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and rubber dam isolation.
  • Do not use in patients with a known allergy or sensitivity to nickel-titanium alloy or any other component of the device.
  • Use only with a compatible endodontic motor in the authorized reciprocating mode. Never use continuous rotation.
  • Assess canal anatomy carefully before mechanical preparation, particularly in canals with abrupt curvature, recurvature, calcification, canal divisions, ledges or other complex anatomy.
  • Use very light apical pressure and allow the instrument to advance passively. Never force the file apically.
  • Withdraw the instrument frequently to clean the flutes, irrigate and recapitulate.
  • Inspect the instrument regularly. Do not use files that are deformed, unwound, corroded, fractured or show signs of wear.
  • Do not fully immerse the files in sodium hypochlorite solution.
  • Do not use if the package is damaged.
  • Single use only. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse after clinical use.
  • After clinical use, discard the instrument in an appropriate biohazard sharps container.
  • Store in the original packaging at room temperature in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and high humidity.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the product label.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Quick answers about product selection, configuration and clinical use.

Which V Blue file should be used first?

R25 is the usual primary size for many routine canals and is the recommended starting size for narrow or poorly visible canals. R40 or R50 should be selected only when canal anatomy and apical gauging support a larger preparation.

How is the final V Blue size verified?

After R25, gauge with an ISO #30 hand file; after R40, gauge with an ISO #50 hand file; after R50, gauge with an ISO #60 hand file. If the gauge is snug at working length, shaping may be complete. If it remains loose, consider the next V Blue size only when canal anatomy supports additional enlargement.

What motor setting should be used?

Use a compatible endodontic motor with the manufacturer-authorized reciprocating program specified for NIC® V Blue. Never use V Blue in continuous rotary motion. Follow the reciprocation angle settings entered in the V Blue product specifications and the applicable motor instructions.

How must V Blue be sterilized before first use?

V Blue is supplied non-sterile. Before first clinical use, sterilize by steam autoclave at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process, then allow the instruments to dry completely.

Can V Blue files be reused?

No. V Blue files are intended for single clinical use. After use, discard the file in an appropriate biohazard sharps container. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse it after clinical use.

Can V Blue be used during retreatment?

When permitted by the current NIC® product labelling, V Blue may be used to assist with removal of gutta-percha or other compatible obturation material. Use short controlled reciprocating movements, withdraw frequently to clean the flutes and irrigate, and re-establish patency and a reproducible pathway before completing reshaping and disinfection.

Which lengths and pack size are available?

V Blue files are available in 21 mm, 25 mm and 31 mm lengths and are supplied six instruments per pack.

Where is NIC® V Blue manufactured?

NIC® V Blue is manufactured in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.
