Clinical workflow

Step-by-step clinical workflow

Follow the clinical sequence below together with the current manufacturer instructions for use.

0 1 Establish the glide path Size 010 hand file · working length · optional W+ Tunnel 15/.02

Establish straight-line access, determine working length and confirm a smooth, reproducible glide path to a loose size 010 hand file.

  • Confirm patency and a reproducible glide path before shaping.
  • W+ Tunnel 15/.02 may be used to expand the secured glide path.
  • Irrigate and recapitulate before beginning W+ shaping.
0 2 Begin shaping with Primary 25/.07 Red · gentle inward pressure · controlled progression

Primary 25/.07 is the initial W+ shaping file. Allow it to progress passively through regions where a glide path has been confirmed.

  • Use controlled reciprocating passes rather than sustained apical pressure.
  • Remove and clean the file regularly.
  • Irrigate and recapitulate between passes as required by the IFU.
  • Carry Primary to full working length in one or more passes.
0 3 Select Small, Medium or Large only when indicated 20/.07 · 35/.06 · 45/.05

The response to Primary determines whether another W+ shaping size is required.

If Primary does not progress easily: use Small 20/.07, then return to Primary.

If Primary reaches working length appropriately: shaping may be complete.

If Primary is loose at working length and further enlargement is indicated: continue with Medium 35/.06 and/or Large 45/.05.

Sterility & safety

Important information for this product version

Review the sterility, handling and safety information for this exact product version.

Sterility Non-sterile · sterilize before first use

Clinical handling & safety Review before clinical use
Before first clinical use

NIC® W+ files in this listing are supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use. Steam-autoclave the instruments at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated steam sterilization process. Allow the instruments to dry completely before clinical use. W+ files are intended for single clinical use only. After clinical use, discard the instrument and do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse it.

  • For professional dental use only.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and rubber dam isolation.
  • Do not use in patients with a known allergy or sensitivity to nickel-titanium or other device components.
  • These files are supplied non-sterile and must be sterilized before first clinical use.
  • Do not use the instrument if the package is damaged or if the file is deformed, unwound, corroded, fractured or shows signs of wear.
  • Establish a smooth, reproducible glide path before beginning W+ shaping.
  • Use NIC® W+ in reciprocating motion only. Do not use continuous rotary motion.
  • Use the recommended W+ / WaveOne® Gold-compatible reciprocating motor program. Where custom angles are required, use 150° CCW cutting and 30° CW release.
  • Use gentle inward pressure with short, controlled movements and allow the instrument to progress passively through the established canal pathway.
  • Do not force the file apically. If the instrument does not progress easily, withdraw it, clean and inspect the flutes, irrigate, recapitulate with a size 010 K-file and re-irrigate before continuing.
  • Irrigate copiously and frequently during preparation and clean the flutes regularly.
  • Do not fully immerse the instrument in sodium hypochlorite solution.
  • Exercise additional caution in canals with abrupt curvature, recurvature, canal division or other complex anatomy where safe passive progression cannot be achieved.
  • A slight curvature caused by heat treatment is not necessarily a manufacturing defect. It is not necessary to straighten the instrument before use.
  • Single clinical use only. After clinical use, discard the instrument in an appropriate biohazard sharps container. Do not clean, disinfect, sterilize or reuse the file.
  • Store in the original packaging in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and humidity. Do not use after the stated expiry date.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Quick answers about product selection, configuration and clinical use.

Which W+ file is used first for shaping?

Primary 25/.07 is the initial W+ shaping file once a smooth, reproducible glide path has been established.

When are Medium or Large used?

Medium 35/.06 and/or Large 45/.05 are used when Primary is loose at working length and further apical enlargement is clinically indicated.

When is Small 20/.07 used?

Small is used when Primary does not progress easily. After Small reaches working length, the workflow returns to Primary.

What motor setup is used for W+?

The current NIC® IFU specifies a WaveOne® Gold-compatible reciprocating program or 150° CCW cutting / 30° CW release where custom angles are required.

What speed and torque should be entered?

Numerical speed and torque values are not specified in the current W+ IFU. Use the compatible reciprocating program supported by your motor.

Can W+ be used in continuous rotation?

No. NIC® W+ is intended for reciprocating motion.

What is W+ Tunnel?

W+ Tunnel 15/.02 is the glide-path file in the W+ range and is sold separately.

Which lengths are available for W+?

W+ shaping files are available in 21 mm, 25 mm and 31 mm lengths.

Is this W+ listing sterile?

This W+ product listing is supplied non-sterile. Before first clinical use, the current NIC® W+ IFU specifies steam autoclaving at 134°C for 18 minutes using a validated process, followed by complete drying. CanDent Group also uses product badges to help identify sterile and non-sterile listings.

Where is NIC® W+ manufactured?
